Biography
I write young adult fiction (many of the reasons can be summarized here), which is also what I enjoy reading by and large.
I have an MA and a PhD in Folklore from Indiana University where I minored in Performance Studies and Slavic Languages and Literature – all of which was great for a dissertation that focused on the role of theater in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) as well as, to a lesser extent, how mimesis functions.
From high school until 2007, I worked diligently in many aspects of theater (lighting, properties, stagecraft, painting in Minneapolis, writing and direction and design in Indiana and Wisconsin). By then I was transitioning out of full-time theater and more and more getting into producing live arts events (search the tag “Motionary Comics”) and working more and more in film.
I still write stageplays and screenplays.
I still work as a carpenter.
If you focus on the eyebrow in this picture, you’ll see a faint line where the doctors stitched my brow back after I punched a hole in my windshield with my face.
